Tyler Perry’s ‘If Loving You Is Wrong’ Makes History As OWN’s Most Watched Series Premiere
Tyler Perry has once again made history as his latest OWN original series, “If Loving You is Wrong,” netted the network’s most watched series premiere honor with 1.93 million viewers.
According to a press release, the show’s Sept. 9 network premiere episode delivered a “1.47 rating” in the key W25-54 (women, 25 to 54-years-old) demo, outpacing Perry’s May 2013 OWN series debut of “Haves and Have Nots” at 1.77 million viewers.
The drama series, which stars Amanda Clayton, Edwina Findley, Heather Hemmens, and Zulay Henao, follows the lives of a group of husbands, wives and friends that live and love in a middle class neighborhood, as they navigate through finding and maintaining romance to heartbreak.
Prior to the Hollywood titan’s string of successful OWN-scripted sitcoms, he opened up in the June 2013 issue of ESSENCE magazine about how he and Oprah Winfrey manage to strike a balance between their friendship and business.
“The most important thing about coming together was making sure we would not lose our friendship because of the business,” he admitted. “We had to establish ground rules. The main one: Both of us have to continue to live in our truth. If she doesn’t like something, say it. If I don’t like something, I’ll say it. And we’ll figure it out and keep moving on…”
“If Loving You is Wrong” airs Tuesdays at 9/8c on the OWN network.
